Ecommerce Software, important step in setting up a shop!
November 10, 2007
I have seriously given thought about opening up a store here at my blog and start selling some scrap kits, elements, papers, and some commercial use items. A lot really don’t realize what all goes into setting up a shop online. There are many factors to consider. An important factor to consider is ecommerce software. You want a reliable shopping cart software that offers you everything you need. I have been doing a lot of searching on this subject and have come to find there are many shopping cart programs that require you to purchase additional plug-in’s for added features and some of these are called mod’s. You want a shopping cart that has many features like inventory control, featured products, offer discount coupons and gift certificates, and the ability to have multiple currency, just to name a few. Designing your store is very important as it all about presentation and layout. You want to use one that is fully customizable and would be great if it came with some editable themes, and the most important factor to consider is your payment options! Make sure when you take this step, to get the best you can with the most features included without paying extra!

Got something to say?

There are several free and very secure ecommerce packages out there. Zen cart is probably the most popular with those selling scraps and it has decent mods that are free and effective.
One of the biggest things to take into consideration is what type of server your hosting is on, it needs to be able to support the shopping cart of choice.
The other thing individuals seriously need to take into consideration and do not is purchasing and implementing SSL certificates. This is not only for your own safety but the safety of the customer.
Hosting is not expensive, there are quality hosts out there that can run ecommerce solutions ranging in price from $50 a year and on up. While many individuals like to go with Go Daddy I deter individuals from there because they nickel and dime you for everything. For example if you want your statistics it’s an extra charge per month! The company I host with is a mere $50 a year with awesome uptime and all the amenities including sql databases, unlimited domains and more.
