Why do salesmen talk down to women?

It really just drives me nuts how some salesmen just talk down to you because you are a woman. I was out and about looking for some cable as we are thinking of running the computer wiring into the attack since our kitties seem to want to fish them out to chew on. In case you don’t know buying cables are not exactly cheap to just up and replace them. So this salesmen gives me this big old speech about the different types of cables, like Cat 5 cable, and needing special jacks for each cable type and there is flat, and on and on!! I just up and walked away and will do my buying online where I won’t be talked down too!
